Jayanta Mahapatra Public Library ( JMPL) is a unique repository of knowledge nestled in the KIIT and KISS Complex adjacent to the Gundicha Temple. It is open to public and is an addition to a Central Library and Library in all the Schools of KIIT University that has access to the students. JMPL stands out for its impressive collection of over 11,737 books and its commitment to serving a diverse community of readers. Inspiration behind JMPL

The inception of the JMPL is deeply rooted in the vision of Prof. Achyuta Samanta who observed the rapidly growing digital world and realized the potential risk of traditional reading habits waning. He believes in the power of reading and its role in intellectual growth and thus felt the pressing need for a space where the community could engage with books, uninterrupted by the chaos of daily life. His desire was to foster a love for reading in younger generations and a past time for young at hearts and to remind everyone of the timeless pleasures a good book can offer.

What will it have?

The library doesn’t limit itself to just physical books. It also features an e-library, ensuring that tech-savvy readers can access their favorite titles online. The library has been designed keeping modern amenities in mind. A comfortable, air-conditioned environment ensures that visitors can delve into their chosen texts in a serene and comfortable ambiance. Why Is It Named So?

The library bears the name of legendary Jayanta Mahapatra, paying homage to one of India’s most celebrated poets and thinkers. His works, deeply rooted in the cultural ethos of Odisha, have resonated with readers globally. Naming the library after him serves is a tribute to his literary legacy, an inspiration for budding writers and readers, and a symbol of the library’s commitment to promoting profound literary works.

Rules and Regulations

  • Jayanta Mahapatra Public Library welcomes patrons of all ages. All the patrons must produce Aadhaar Card.
  • If any guest wants to use Jayanta Mahapatra Public Library facilities, s/he has to produce a valid introduction letter carrying the purpose of his/her use from the concerned institutions to which s/he is attached.
  • A user should not hesitate to take help of library staff in searching their relevant books and pertinent information.
  • Personal books are not allowed inside the Library.
  • The library allows the user to freely browse books from the bookshelf. However, they are not entitled to disturb the classified arrangement of books. They may take out the book and place it at the issue counter so that they can be put at the proper places by the library staff.
  • Abuse of library books, periodicals, equipment, furniture, tearing out pages from a book, putting marks on different pages, underlining, removing bar-codes, removing labels and electronic theft devices, damaging or defacing library books or any materials is strictly prohibited.
  • All users of the library are advised to keep their mobile phones in switched off or silent mode in the library. Use of speaker phone or head phone is not permitted in the library.
  • Library does not allow conversation and discussions that disturbs the learning ambiance. Similarly, readers must avoid all disruptive behavior, physical abuse, intimidation or harassment of any kind and viewing materials that create a hostile, intimidating, or offensive environment.
  • Any use of the library as a filming location, still photography, taking photo of a specific section must be duly approved in advance by the competent authority of library administration.
  • Eating inside the library, drinking, spitting, smoking, chewing tobacco, sleeping, gossiping and such other activities tainting the cleanliness and sanctity of the library environment are strictly forbidden. Action will be taken for violating rules of the library.
  • The library is not responsible for loss or damage to personal property. Users entering into the library must deposit their personal belongings at the entrance and put their signature in the visitors’ register placed at the entrance point.
  • Sleeping in the library is not allowed. Users are reminded that the library is open to them for the purpose of reading and research and not for sleeping. Lying on furniture or on the floor is not permitted.
  • Destructive materials, weapons, explosives, or other dangerous devices or substances are not permitted in the library.
